Weather Station
A collaborative project between ABAL and the Undergraduate Bishop’s
Earth Research Group (UBERG) at Bishop’s University.

The objective of the weather stations
The weather station network will make it possible to measure the anticipated beneficial effects of the Boisé Ascot-Lennox on air quality and temperature. The network will consist of three distinct stations: two located in urban areas, in Ascot and Lennoxville, and the third located in the forested area of the BAL.
Ecosystem Services
The ecosystem services provided by the forest include, among others, the reduction of seasonal and daily temperature fluctuations – an important asset in the fight against urban heat islands. In addition to regulating temperature, forests also serve as areas for capturing and storing carbon dioxide, contributing to the fight against climate change.
Measured Data
-
Temperature, wind speed and rainfall
-
Fine particulate matter in the air
-
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
Data Sharing
The weather data collected from the stations will be made public. This data will be accessible through our website to ensure it is available to everyone.
An Educational Awareness Tool
This weather data will serve as a tool to raise public awareness about the benefits of the woodland. What impact can urban forests have on our environment? And most importantly, what role should they play in the development of our cities?
